Making of Sculptures

Here is the process I took to make my four paper mache busts.

Of course. First you start off with the base or shape of the sculpture, so with the use of chicken wire I cut it out and modelled it into the shape I needed, in this case a head.

After much fiddling trying to get it right I seemed a bit too big I popped off the top and reapplied it to make it a slight bit smaller.

Then the head needed a body. So I chopped some more chicken wire, around the rough size I needed.

And began putting the seems together to get a rough shape.

Leaving a hole at the top, I was able to put the bottom of the neck into it link the wire from there which made the it more stable and didn't move around as much.

Once I had done that, all I had to do was repeat 3 more times.

Then came the messy part, the glueing. To start off I praticed of the test head so I could get a rough idea of how to this, and very quickly I got the hang of it and moved on the the actual things.

Now I have a little gang of friends. And now for the painting.

Using Acrylic paint with a little bit of water to make it easier to apply, I gave the sculptures their first coat.

Clearly after one coat they needed more.

And after their second they could do with another, but I didn't have enough time to get more paint. But the texturing from the toilet paper gave them the feel and look I was hoping for, however dure to the thin layers you can see the chicken wire outline throw the shell.
