Time Art Evaluation!

I feel good with my work that I have produced, it came out better then I thought. However, from doing this project alone I have learnt a lot from my mistakes and discovered how difficult it is to wake up 5am to get quiet street for filming.
For example, with the lack of decent internet at home I wasn't able to research Lynda tutorials for when I needed them, as I regret not blending in the borders of the original images, rather than having sharp, straight lines cut across the present day footage.
I also wish I could have done a little more with After effects, as my work relied on it only when I needed to place the three screens together.
Overall I have learned from this and will apply the things I have missed to my future projects, whether in a group or on my own again.

Time art Archive photos!

These are the photo's I'll be using to morph with the current footage.

I have gone back home and recorded footage that closely resembles the framing of these images. I also film an extra two locations for back up just incase of any footage problems.

Time treatment part 2!

Effects

Instead of making the after effects process too complicated I can just blend the old image on the current footage. I'll keep the old images in black and white then morph in the new footage over the things that have changed, which will then be in colour so you can see the comparison.

I can use my canon 650D though I may need to use a microphone to get clear sound (background sound).

Midhurst, a small town in West Sussex that still holds it's vintage background, yet has clearly been enhanced from our development.

Message!

"History is the study of change. Change is life. When things become static, it means they're dead,"

The people and objects in this world are changing and developing fast, so we change our surrounds to enhance that.

So I am showing the development of the town I lived in by looking back at archive photos and morphing them with present day footage of the town.

Research

Ruins are another structure that drew me towards to the idea of abandoned places as they are virtually the same thing. They both have a sort of history behind them.

Time Treatment!

My Time Project Treatment

Already loving photography of old abandoned places because of there creepy feel. There's a feeling of fear around them, yet the emptiness sort of brings a new view of life to it.

Pulling me towards them, encouraging me to explore and learn the true story behind this now crumbling structure. 

I know, text book start of a horror movie right there. 

Just seeing these places which were one beautiful and full of people rooming around sort of makes me sad in a way. And the fact that the abandonment isn't just with small houses but institutes, business even towns or cities.

I've even looked around to see why I'm pulled to abandoned places, then I remember how much I love ancient ruins. The Colosseum, Machu Picchu, The Great Pyramids, etc. I love them because of the history that comes with them. Things I wasn't alive for or just didn't see.
It must mean something about mu personality. I know I am a very nostalgic person for events in my life, but abandoned places that mean nothing to me also intrigue me and me feel anxious, excited and nostalgic.

My idea for this project came not only from just messing around on Tumblr but then looking into Jeremy Marshall who photographs urban abandoned places.

This image really gave me the back of my idea. The Mix of old and new in one frame. Of course this being a still image I turned it into a moving image.

 3 old abandoned buildings with most of the structure still standing, one on each screen. Looping from there current crumbling state, to there older built version. Of course I will not be choosing random places to put of screen. I shall be looking into the history of these places to see if they deserve to be remembered. Why they closed down, what they did in the past, any scandalous information about the place, etc.

 The one minute loop will be of them fade or forming into the old form and then reforming back into the old broken down building.

I believe the message I'm trying to portray is that over time things decay, even buildings that might were of great importance and even though now it looks intimidating, we should remember things in there prime and listen to the story that they tell rather then flee at the sight of them.

Treatment Part 2

Time Mind map!

This mind map is from the thought of Time and what it spreads itself too. Of course I have possibly missed out some things, however this is what I got.

Time Ideas No.1 Development!

In addition to my first time idea, I could fade out the busy rush to a quieter time of the night. This shows how once everyone has left work and gone home to sleep it's a different world outside. This happens every night at the same time! Just empty because of the hours people need to be up the next day. CLOCKWORK!

Personal Experience: Im used to walking home and walking along side the road at around 6 in the evening, it'd quite blinding due too all the cars coming my way, however! The other day I went home at a later time, being 12am, and the difference in cars on the road was unbelievable for just how busy it normally is. I could, and did, walk down the middle of the road with only 1 or 2 cars coming along every 5 mins. And just how quiet it was, was just lovely! 

That's my new thought on this idea. 

Time Ideas No.3!

Time Lapse

This idea had been done a lot but instead I want to show the effect of time on different things, such as a bunch of flowers surrounded by fake ones, preferably different colour to the real ones, then have a sundial to show true time. Lastly have a globe with ice on top slowly melting while a ring around the equator burns.

I'll use this technique to show time in multiples ways and the way it effects different objects such as death, melting or movement.

Time Ideas No.2!

Reconstruction

This idea came from my fascination with old abandon buildings. There unknown story ready to be told but hidden under it's creep, crumbling exterior that ward people away from it. This urge to uncover old ruins probably cam from my Tomb Raider days on the PS1.

Time Ideas No.1!

Transport!

Transport runs on time itself. If you mention travelling, the conversation quickly changes to "what time are you leaving? what are the times?" 

Where I am located at the moment, I am very close to the train and bus station as well as a busy road so I can see the chaos of rush hour as cars beep their way home with everyone else. And the herd of people in suits flooding off the buses and trains.

One screen will be a train or multiple trains leaving and arriving at the station, one with a traffic jam or rush hour and the other will be buses coming and going.

The message is that everyone today is too busy and is impatient. A lot of travel is late which everyone complains about because of people needing to be on time or doing things.

The idea of this is too represent the busyness in our lives today. Nothing runs slowly or smoothly anymore. Also that everyone's life has the same routine. All day, all month, all year. But we don't really see it ourselves as we are normally part of the crowd. I want to show people there lives from and outsiders perspective.
