Artist studies 2

Cornelia parker

The construction of scrap metal suspended in air, in an empty room with light in the centre, causing what looks like an explosion. The destruction of something captured beautifully in mid air almost like a freeze frame from a film.

Alighiero e boetti

Simple yet creative use of flags on a world map, you can see clearly who is who and shocks you to see the size of areas in which one pretty little flag holds control over.

Claus oldenburg

Again I think another creative way of making something, quite common around us, with a different material then usual. Reminds me of the Egyptians using papyrus as paper, the look and style, also the thickness and colour of the image on the right.

Langlands and bell

I love this piece because of the way that, even though the the borders and landmasses have been taken away, you can still see the outline of the Map of the World. It's also interesting to see what route planes take, as they are not as visible as roads and such.

Simon patterson

Using the system of a underground train map to create a timeline is definitely a new one, but one I also like again. I believe he has made other pieces like this one but using different subjects or themes for the maps.

Sohei nishino

The thought of this work makes me amazed and baffled in many ways. The fact that he has taken so many little images of one place and pieced them altogether is astonishing, yet my knowledge of working with contacts in A level photography makes me wonder why someone would want to do this to themselves. All joking aside his work is very beautiful when all put together, thinking about the effort gone into it and, if done correctly, how much you could zoom into each image.

Mishka henner

The use of street view is a bit weird, but the use of it is very well done. In the top image Mishka has gone to a location (can't remember where) and found various images of prostitutes waiting around on the side of roads.  A bizarre way to use Google Street view, but it's one that seems very time consuming.

This bottom image is also done by the same artist, Mishka, who again is using Google street view to find locations on it which have been blanked out because of Military reasons or government property.

Jazzberry Blue
I found this artist whilst looking around at maps online and I love the simplicity of taking a map of a complex area, like a major city, and then colour or fill in the gaps between each road. It's something I'd love to try with smaller towns in the area maybe. But first I'd need to learn Illustration I think.
